4. To attract more reading enthusiasts, Desert General is expanding its offerings and reach:
(1) A new store section dedicated to readers’ companion objects will be introduced to maximize sales during the upcoming end-of-year holiday season.
(2) Through active fundraising and lobbying, Desert General is launching an annual book festival, scheduled to premiere on Sunday 28 October, 2023

1. Desert General recognizes the significance of readers’ companion objects, driven by the enduring popularity of reading and the renewed appreciation of physical books and the tactile experience they offer. These objects not only serve a functional purpose but also allow readers to express their passion for books and literature through personalized and aesthetically pleasing items.
2. A diverse and curated collection of readers’ companion objects will be prominently showcased in a visually captivating section of the store. Each item will be given its own dedicated space, enabling customers to easily explore and discover the wide range of options available. Clear signage and attractive product descriptions will accompany each object.
3. In addition to the in-store display, these readers’ companion objects will be featured in Desert General’s weekly newsletter, reaching a database of 1,500+ contacts. They will also be highlighted on the store’s social media pages, capturing the attention of a wider audience. Furthermore, these objects will take center stage during the well-attended meetings of Desert General’s Book Club, ensuring they receive ample visibility and exposure.
LEVERAGING THE TWENTYNINE PALMS BOOK FESTIVAL
Partnering with the City of Twentynine Palms, Desert General is launching a book festival to expand its reach and engage a growing database of book lovers. The festival is a celebration of stories and storytellers inspired by the unique landscape, culture, history, and themes of the desert and the American West
. The inaugural event offers an exciting lineup including a book fair, book signings, readings, talks, and panel discussions. It brings together authors, publishers, experts, and passionate reading enthusiasts from Twentynine Palms and neighboring communities. Activation begins on Thursday, August 24th, with the full program and activity schedule to be released online.
3. A successful first edition will establish a solid foundation for a two-day event starting in 2024. Additionally, it will significantly expand Desert General’s database by acquiring 1,000+ qualified contacts. Through the Desert General Book Club, this active community of book lovers will be nurtured and engaged throughout the year.
